Getting Started as a Terminologist. Course 1 – Foundations

In this course, we start by describing the specific nature and requirements of companies and organizations for managing terminology. We then cover some core concepts, principles, theories, and methods involved in terminology work. We end this course with an overview of Terminology Management Systems and other tools. After the course, you will complete a quiz to test your knowledge.

Note that he following acronyms are used throughout all three series of courses.

• ATE – Automatic Term Extraction
• CA – Controlled Authoring
• CAT – Computer-Assisted Translation
• TM – Translation Memory
• TMS – Terminology Management System
• SEO – Search Engine Optimization

Note that these acronyms are also used for the plural form, e.g. TMS, not TMSs, for Terminology Management Systems.
